Food & Wine 2010 Wine Guide

F&W Wine Guide 2010

"There are a surprising number of wine encyclopedias and wine bibles in the world; Food & Wine’s Wine Guide 2010 is not one of them. Because who wants to haul a 10-pound tome to a wine shop? F&W’s Wine Guide is pocket-size, portable and answers the vital question: What’s worth buying? New York City–based writer Anthony Giglio, who tasted through 4,000 wines to arrive at the 1,100 winners in this book, covered each and every important winemaking region in the world, recommending bottles $8 and up. Wine-industry insiders from around the globe also contributed reports, describing intriguing trends (like emerging value-oriented regions in Spain, Italy and California) and anticipatged vintages.
"

We're quite proud that Antonio Giglio is recommending three of our producer's wines in his 2010 guide:

2006

Sant'Andrea 'Dune' | Malvasia & Trebbiano | Lazio | White

*** $$ "This blend of Malvasia and Trebbiano spends six months in oak barrels, which explains its intricate nose of honey, vanilla and a hint of sweet banana. The melon palate is quite dry, with a medium-long finish." --- Antonio Giglio

More reviews:

"The second white was a 2006 Circeo Bianco called Dune (Circeo is a coastal zone). It's a blend of 60 percent malvasia puntinata and 40 percent trebbiano. Almost golden in color, this is a bigger wine with a core of pear and tropical fruit, accented by notes of honey, mint and rosemary and a subtle woody backdrop that it gets from six months in oak barrels. It reminded me of an aged white Rioja from Spain and will match with white meats and aged cheeses such as Cheddar." --- Edward Deitch (MSNBC/Today)

"I never cease to be amazed at the extremely enjoyable wines made by Sant'Andrea, located at the seaside an hour south of Rome. White or red, dry or sweet, wine does not seem to hold many secrets for the owners - the Pandolfo family - and they rarely release anything that isn't at least above average, at prices that are hard to beat."
--- Ian D'Agata

2007

Proietti 'Corte alla Luna' | Cesanese | Lazio | Red

** $$ "Cesanese is a spicy, aromatic grape variety native to the region of Lazio. This juicy example provides blueberry and flower aromas, while chewy tannins firm the fruit-forward palate." --- Antonio Giglio

2004

Sant'Andrea 'Sogno' | Merlot & Cesanese | Lazio | Red

** $$ "A bit of Cesanese tops off this Merlot-dominated blend, which then spends 12 month aging in new French oak barrels. The result is a mondern, full-bodied wine that tastes of sweet vanilla, spice and dense blackberry." --- Antonio Giglio
(Note: This vintage is sold out.)

More reviews:

"Sant'Andrea is one of the best estates in Italy for high-quality wines at exceptionally fair prices."
