CIRCEO ROSSO
"One of the hardest things to find in the world of wine is a sweet red, with serious red-wine flavors...the kind of thing you might want to serve with BBQ in the summertime! Look no further. This odd denominazione--Circeo Rosso, on the coast of Lazio, south of Rome--is required by law to contain at least 85% Merlot grapes! Dark, glass-staining wine--surprisingly purple for a four-year-old. On a wonderful cusp between dark fruit and incipient funk, between chocolate and cheese. Shockingly sweet on entry, but brought up quickly by fresh-fruit acidity. Kinda like the balance of a Kabinett Riesling....except this is a chunky red wine! Unique! What I find really endearing is tha the chunkiness is not overbearing; this is a relatively soft wine, with an acid-lifted finish. Lots of fun."
