We import WINE.
Wines of quality, tipicity and pleasure - not points, fame, vintages, fashions, styles, price points, mark-ups, profit margins, ratings, or numbers.
Every single estate in our portfolio has been hand-picked and never been imported into the USA before. We really "discovered" all of our producers. Not by reading guides but by exploring a wine zone over a number of years.
We are quite proud that we made Liguria 'famous' in the States (Bruna, Laura Aschero, Giacomelli, Ottaviano Lambruschi, Il Monticello) and were the first US wine importer to introduce top-quality DAC Gruener Veltliner, Lagrein, Schiava, Rossese di Dolceacqua, 'real', authentic Lambrusco (Medici Ermete 'Concerto' 1994), Vitovska, Terrano, Malvasia Frizzante, Malvasia Istriana, Colli di Luni Vermentino, Moscato di Terracina, Cesanese, Gutturnio, Longanesi, and Centisimino to this country.
After 19 years of importing (1991-2009) fascinating wines we continue the search for wines that are not only varietal correct and of the highest quality but also a pleasure to drink. ALL of our selections (even our Lambruscos!) are imported in refrigerated containers (known as 'turned on' reefers; yes, not all reefers are shipped 'turned on').

La Distesa (Le Marche) "Corrado Dottori has a rigorous, nature-centered philosophy. His core practices include strictly organic farming, ambient yeasts and minimal intervention winemaking. This comes out in his wines, which may be a tad rough-edged, with the odd slight defect, but are imaginative and appreciated by those who seking novel sensations." - Gambero Rosso, 2009

Kuenhof (Alto Adige) "After years of titanic labor, which is no exaggeration if you consider the masses of rock moved to create the traditional terraces, the new vineyards above Kuenhof are paractically finished and even the small rack designed by Peter Pliger to move around those tight spaces is finally in place. In the meantime, we report the release of a wonderfully pure version of the Riesling Kaiton...Wines from Peter and Brigitte Pliger follow the growing seasons and diligently reflect the differences, reproducing them faithfully in the glass. One final note: from this year, all Kuenhof wines have screw caps." - Gambero Rosso, 2009

Franz Gojer (Alto Adige) "This has been a bit of an in-between vintage year for Gloegglhof, the estate run by likeable, insightful winemaker Franz Gojer. Since 1982, the year he inherited the estate, Franz has produced some of the most territory-focused wines in the Bolzano area. In fact, Gloegglhof is located on the distinctive hill of Santa Maddalena north of Bolzano. And it turns out that the wine we scored highest this year was the Santa Maddallena Rondell 2007." - Gambero Rosso, 2009

Mastri Vinai Papadopoli (Puglia) "2006 marked the first year the Mastri Vinai Papadopoli estate released wines under their own labels (Arke & GekoRosso) though the family has been 'producing' vitculturists for over four generations. They decided to produce Primitivos of the highest quality even though Puglian Primitivos are known mainly for low quality and prices due to high yields. They have 3 ha under vines but only the grapes of about 1 ha goes into their own bottlings. The vines are about 40 years old (planted in 1970)."

Moro di Paola Rinaldini (Emilia) "The estate was founded in 1972 and is one of only two wineries in Italy to grow one of the rarest Lambrusco varieties: Pjcol Ross. It was the Rinaldini family who saved this variety from extinction. Today two Rinaldini wines are made from this clone: 'Moro del Moro', a still red, produced like an amarone, and a sparkling wine."

Giacomelli (Liguria) "Young Roberto Petacchi dedicates his efforts to the native varieties of Lunigiana and his Vermentinos are valuable glimpses into the classic traditions of the area." - Gambero Rosso, 2009
|
 |

Ottaviano Lambruschi (Liguria) "Lambruschi's winery has become an institution in Lunigiana. Its origins go back to the 1970s, when Ottavinao decided to leave the marble quarries of Carrara and then purchase two wooded hectares near Costa Marina. Gradually, determinedly, he acquired other vineyard properties, such as the legendary Sarticola, which was celebrated even in Roman times. With the help of his son Fabio, Lambruschi's long labors in vineyard and cellar have brought forth fine wines indeed." - Gambero Rosso, 2009
